Towards the end of 2022 we were approached by a long-standing customer, with a challenge. Their work includes the application of concrete onto the external surfaces of oil and gas pipelines; large scale, international projects where deadlines are critical.

Our customer wanted to upgrade their glue dispensing equipment but couldn’t find a high-performance glue machine that did exactly what they needed; in the time frame they needed it. Waiting times for new glue dispensing machines exceeded several months.

Having exhausted several options, they approached the team at Spray Plant 2K to see if we could help. After looking over the datasheet, we were sure we could adapt one of our plural component machines to suit. Before committing to the job, we carried out trials at our facility in Leeds to ensure the machine was the right solution for the job.

The product is extremely carcinogenic, so it was critical that our solution complied with exacting environmental control standards. We had to eradicate overspray and guarantee zero atomisation. By modifying the spray equipment to dispense glue rather than spray it, we overcame all H&S and environmental issues.

Our modified glue dispensing equipment met the challenge, and we loaned out our machine and shipped it overseas. Alfie followed in March to oversee safe installation, PQT’s, train operators (Google translate came in very handy), and get our customer ready to begin work, on time. By using our own hire machine, it meant we could help the customer hit their targets while their new machines were being built.

The machine we installed proved to be far better than the customer's old machine. QC loved how accurate ratio checks were and the repeatability of the unit really gave the customer confidence in the machine. Due to our modifications, it meant that we could precisely control the flow rate of the glue and digitally view to ensure the right amount of glue was being dispensed onto each pipe.
